year 2
Sophomore year began with me finding forestry as I searched to declare an Environmental Science focal area. The classes I took for this developed a desire for me to learn more. I also became more involved on campus, deepening my social communties.
FOR 252 - Intro to forest science
One of the first forestry classes I took was a comprehensive overview of the basic fields within forestry. Dr. Joseph Roise taught the class, making the class an immersive and fun experience. Dr. Roise later traveled with me to California to backpack in Yosemite before a professional forestry conference.

This class built a strong foundation for me as I went into my internship and transitioned into the Forest Management major. Dr. Roise also let us watch a prescribed fire, which is something I ended up getting certified to do. I performed my first prescribed burn exactly two years after I watched my first one, to the day.

Epsilon Eta is a co-ed environmental honors fraternity I joined during my freshman year. The club became another important community for me and I developed deep friendships. I decided to join the leadership board as a way of giving back to the club. After my year of service was over, my interests became more focused on forestry and I found other clubs that better supported my goals. As hard as it was, I decided to dedicate my energy to these clubs while decreasing my involvement in Epsilon Eta. This experience taught me that all good things must come to an end.
